RE: I have an automated job, the query pulls for instance 5 rows, but only exports 3 of them. Any idea? I'm using TDP 4.0

The result set could be between 1 and 1,000.  not a big set at all, that's how we caught the problem.  The manager knew a provider should have been on the report and wasn't.  So I went back and looked at the final table and it was there, it just didn't export.

There's no rhyme or reason to what it drops.

In order for me to dig into this I need all the information. Opening a support ticket is best. however, if you want to send me the following items through email I will take a look.

1) I need the Automation script (*.tas)

2) I need any dependent file such as a linked sql file.

3) I need you schedule the script to and get the automation log file from the scheduled execution.

4) I need you to run the script shortly after step 3 in TDP and generate a log showing normal behavior.

i am trying to see what the log files look like when they run normally and when they have an error. It sounds like the data is changing a lot so we would need to run the same script in TDP close to the time where there is an error.

Here’s the problem.  I’ve had to take the automation off of part of it, simply because the managers were getting upset that their reports were garbage.
The other issue is it creates a table that in then compared against next week. So I can’t rerun anything because it would change the table that next week’s data compares against.
I have a support ticket open.  It’s been open for weeks!  SR Number:3633389

Believe me, we’ve copied everything under the sun, he should have whatever you need.
Thanks

Here are the files for the automation and the sql code, but I can’t run it, I would have to rewrite the code to create different tables, and I just don’t have time to do that.
Like I said, I haven’t been able to run this since I submitted the original heat ticket.

Visualization feature - Grouping by Second does not work on a Datetime type Dimension

Hi,

I have measurements that occur on the same day but different time (e.g. 18/8/16 2:20:53 AM and 18/8/16 2:20:54 AM).  I am attempting to plot these 2 points into a graph using the Visualisation tool.  I have set the Dimension Grouping to "Second" but I am getting only 1 point with the Average of the 2 measurements.

I have automation script that is running two sql jobs and placing in Excel then running a macro. The job never finishes and the Log file i have been getting says the below in italics. This began happening when i downloaded 4.0 yesterday.

I am stumped at this point as to why this is happening

There was an Error running Cashiering- MT.tas

Automation script "Cashiering - MT" had errors while executing. The exception messages are listed below and the log file is attached.

Exception Messages:

Ledger_MT - Access to the path 'C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile' is denied.

This file was not available at runtime. nThe location and user authentication may be different at runtime.

Hello ewheet2_906,

Could you please clarify which version did you download? Because you wrote 4.0 however the latest is 4.0.1 and in this version i have implemented a bug fix by ensuring that at least an empty "Desktop" folder exists in the mentioned path from your error message. This is a known bug/behavior of the driver that takes care of opening a file in excel.

Could you please manually create the below folders:
C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\Desktop

Then please do let me know whether it helps.

Martin

RE: Where are the Import Wizard and Expand/Collapse Nodes buttons (to add to bar directly)

We recently changed Import / Export menu to have main toolbar button as Import Export Data and Import Wizard / Export Wizard as part of drop down menu. If you want to use just Import Wizard then you can navigate through the drop down. I am not sure what you mean by Collapse and Expand all nodes since we do not have those options applicable to the main toolbar. Hope this helps.

Extracting hour from a time stamp

Hello,

I'm trying to extract the hour from a time stamp that's formatted as MM/DD/YY HH:MM TT.

I need to set a pivot table up to where it breaks it down by hour and currently when I try to use the timestamp variable it can only break it down to days. I'm coming from another program where that work just fine but I couldn't figure out how to take off the autogrouping in TDP because if you uncheck all boxes it just checks the one you previously were summing down to by default.

So I've looked into other means but haven't had any luck using extract or things of that nature. Usually ends up in some kind of error line like "invalid extract.."

Hoping someone can give me an example line of code that would solve the issue.

Thanks!

Also unrelated issue since I'm posting on the forums anyways. Is there a reason why in select statements it doesn't like to accept case when statements like this:

Case When Example.Food in (('apple'),('lemon'),('orange')) Then 'Fruit'   ....etc.   This usually returns a missing right parenthesis error whenever I try to visualize the statement in the query builder.

The only time I can get the case statements to work is when I incorporate = / or commands like this:

Case When Example.Food = 'apple' OR Example.Food = 'lemon' OR Example.Food = 'orange' THEN 'Fruit'   ...etc

1. I want to add a button for Import Wizard instead of navigating the drop down, which is a UI pain because the tiny sliver you have to click to get it to drop down. I only ever use the Import Wizard hence the need for a distinct button for it.

2. I see there is no toolbar button for Collapse or Expand, that's why I am asking if there is a way to add one to the toolbar. Is there a way?

Unfortunately, there is no way we can add only Import wizard button or expand / collapse button on the main toolbar. You can get to the import wizard from Menu options too.  Tools -> Import Export Data -> Import Wizard if this helps.

The context menu of a selected object in object explorer has separate import and export wizard menu, it is handy to import to an existing table because we will automatically populate the destination table info. Hope it helps.

I can't find the Import Wizard and Expand/Collapse Nodes buttons to add to my button bar. I have the Import/Export button, but I am looknig for specifically the Import Wizard button. I know I had this on previous version of Toad but lost it after transitioning computers. See images for reference.

RE: Buggy behavior: TDP 3.8 overwriting Vertica SEARCH_PATH with "default schema"

In discussing this issue on a Vertica forum, a workaround was developed:

1) In Navigation Manager, change display option of Object Explorer tab to 'Treelist'.

2) In Connection Properties dialog, clear the "Database" box.

3) Save settings and re-connect.

4) Check that the Object Explorer tab of Navigation Manager now lists a high-level element, "List of Databases or Schemas [sic]", and that that high-level element is selected.  So long as this choice remains selected, Vertica's SEARCH_PATH will work properly.

We have scheduled it for next release TDP 4.2.

Why don't you use Select datepart(hh, yourDatefield) as Hr in your sql to set the variable for hours (SQL Server). Or for Oracle use Extract (Select Extract(Hour From YourDateField or To_Date function) as Hr From Dual.

RE: Import wizard issue with date in YYYYMMDD format

Hello Debbie

I'm a big TOAD fan by default!

Anyway... I have a problem and I think maybe its one solved by this query. The bulk of what I want to do with Toad Data Point is importing CSV files into the database on a schedule. All the csv files have a date field. All the date fields on the CSV's are either dd/mm/yyyy or dd-mm-yyyy.

When I import using Toad for Oracle, there is an option under Dates, Times and Numbers, Dates Order - to use a custom format. How do I use that in the TOAD Data Point as this is essential to how we operate?

Kind regards,

Joshua

Import wizard issue with date in YYYYMMDD format

When trying to import data in a YYYYMMDD format into a 'TIMESTAMP' type field in table from a csv file using the Import tool wizard, I always have an issue.

Example:

Value '20090729' at row #218 cannot be convert to type TIMESTAMP(6) of column DATE_EFFET

Could the import tool be enhanced to undestand that type of format.
